Why should I pay a subscription?

A very good question. The subscription is charged to try and recover some of the costs of making the information available on the web site.

The site requires about 30 hours a week to maintain, update and add to the database of information. We also pay subscriptions to genealogy web sites and magazines about clocks and watches. On top of this is the price of keeping our library up to date with any new books.

Adding a new maker to the database takes about 3-5 hours per maker, even if not a lot of information is found, we still need to look at all the different reference sources to see if there is anything there.

Your subscription goes to covering these costs. However, if you are an annual subscriber, it is possible to continue your subscription free of charge. This is done by you contributing to the site with photos or additional information about a maker listed in our indexes. For each set of photos or information that we use, we extend your subscription by one month FREE OF CHARGE. This way those that contribute are not expected to pay so much to access other information.
